Final update.

Selection Monday is upon us. At noon, teams around the country will learn their postseason fate – if they got in, where they’re going to regionals and their path to Omaha. This is Baseball America’s final projection of the Field of 64.

The selection committee has already announced the 16 host sites, so those teams are locked into the projections. The order of those top 16 seeds has yet to be revealed, however. The committee adhered closely to RPI when selecting the hosts. Whether it does so with the seeding remains to be seen.

Last year’s selection show included a few surprises, notably as Grand Canyon and Mississippi got in the field, while North Carolina State and Rutgers were snubbed. Does the selection committee have more surprises in store this year?

The tournament bubble seemingly doesn’t leave much room for maneuvering. Some conference tournament upsets have left little room for true bubbly teams, unless there is a true shocker. In this projection, NC State and UC Irvine are the last two teams in the field, NC State this year overcoming a losing ACC record thanks to a top-25 RPI (23) and UCI squeezing past other bubble teams thanks to a top-50 RPI (49) and an 18-12 record against opponents that rank in the top 100 of RPI. That leaves Kansas State, Arizona State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Arizona on the wrong side of the bubble. K-State, ASU and Notre Dame all rank outside the top 50 in RPI, which leaves them no margin of error for the other flaws in their resumes. Oklahoma and Arizona have the RPI (40 and 45, respectively), but both have losing records against their conference foes, which will be difficult to overcome.

The selection show will air on ESPN2 at noon.
